This intermediate level lecture and lab course is designed to further assist the attendee with evaluation and treatment of curvature of the spine. Course participants will gain an appreciation of frontal and transverse plane considerations as well as advanced sagittal plane concepts for different curve presentations. Respiratory biomechanical changes and subsequent physiological consequences will be addressed. Further evaluative techniques and treatment components including 15 Postural Restoration Institute® (PRI) non-manual techniques, exercise program dosing and weaning (TLSO braces and HEP) will be covered. Prerequisites include STRATER Scoliosis Institute™ Level One, and at least one of the primary Postural Restoration Institute® courses (Postural Respiration, Myokinematic Restoration, or Pelvis Restoration).
Format: Home study (virtual, asynchronous)
Cost: $575
Note: Once purchased, you will have access to the course for 30 days.
Following this course, the attendee will:
1. understand advanced sagittal plane concepts including respiratory mechanics, kyphosis and lordosis.
2. consider the contributions of respiratory physiology including nitric oxide, pressure management, hyperinflation, neurosense (interoception), and autonomic regulation to the treatment of curvature of the spine.
3. comprehend fundamental frontal and transverse plane biomechanics of the relationship between the pelvis and rib cage seen in scoliosis.
4. implement and interpret advanced physical therapy evaluation tools to assist with treatment selection, progression, and navigation of physical therapy discharge planning and brace weaning.
5. learn advanced treatment concepts including neurosensory self-awareness of habitual versus corrective posture and movement patterns, grounding, lateralization, derotation, reaching, and management of joint hypermobility within 15 Postural Restoration Institute® non-manual techniques.
